Similar to Euonymus alatus (Thunb.) Sieb.

Dormant twigs of Burning Bush may resemble those of native trees Winged Elm (Ulmus alata) and Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), which are usually two-winged instead of four-winged. Sweetgum has bright red fall foliage. There are cultivars.
